We came up with this great idea to bling them out just like the ones she saw at an event...so of course I obliged because she is a gem herself so here we go.

First, I had her send me a picture of what she wanted. Then I researched bling cake pop sticks and saw so many options. Who knew? I took my cake decorating material and got to work.

1. Using the diamond rhinestone wrap in the color she wanted I measured out how much I needed.

2. I took the cake pop stick and wrapped the bling around it to ensure I had enough to wrap. FYI it took me 2 tries but I finally got it.

3. Then I commenced to blinging out my cake pop sticks. Using a glue gun I wrapped and glued the bling around the stick.

Blinged out!

I can't wait to show the final product. Strawberry of course! I know, I know, you would have thought I had a strawberry recipe given my name, Strawberries Cakes, but surprisingly I have never had that request. I love strawberries and so does Logan, my son, and I am determined to demonstrate my love by letting everyone taste a strawberry. Well a good strawberry that is and with that being said I tested a recipe to incorporate strawberries.

My first test included a basic vanilla recipe in which I substituted frozen strawberries that I let thaw. It was a disaster. The strawberries had thawed but were not room temp so the cupcakes looked great but tasted horrible and had a horrible watery consistency. Now on to the second test that I used fresh strawberries and puréed them and added them to the recipe which worked out perfectly.

So what did I learn, I need to test the idea of strawberry chunk cupcakes with letting the strawberries thaw to room temp, dry them with a paper towel, and chop them up. Then add to the recipe and go from there which I am going to do but until then I am satisfied with my fresh strawberry cupcake with strawberry icing. I am still working on the icing consistency since the fresh puréed strawberries made it very watery as you can see in the photos. I can't wait to share so here we go. These past few weeks have been such a world wind for me with setting up a new business venture (Strawberries Events and Strawberries Cakes), website, planning an event, and testing recipes. The recipes this week were vegan recipes that everyone loved. Here are some pictures from my "on the go" tastings.

I had so much fun but I learned a lot too, for instance, make sure you label the cupcakes if they are decorated the same. LOL, I couldn't believe I didn't do that but oh well next time. I am preparing for my test this weekend which will be cranberry orange. Well, if I get the cranberries and oranges...forgot them at the grocery store. Mental note: pick up cranberries and oranges tomorrow :) Now off to planning for my big tasting event, I'm so excited!!!!

Although we had some complications with the transportation and then got lost twice, we finally made it. In what seemed like a split second, I put the cake together, smoothed out some icing issues during transport and had the cake set up for the reception. The decor was beautiful it took place at a local georgetown hot spot, Sequioa's. It made the perfect backdrop for a beautiful event. I'm so happy to have been afforded the opportunity and can't wait to share more adventures (strawberries) with you!!

PS I really wanted to do a more elaborate table decor but I did not have any flowers left after placing them on the cake but next time!

Oh and I didn't forget pics!Shinaviahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14459634335085939831noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8210563718010100235.post-68624310700176888332009-09-29T06:23:00.000-07:002009-09-29T06:49:08.435-07:00Gearing up for a Wedding

So today starts my cake preparation for the Wedding Cake due Saturday. I'm trying to perfect the juggling of jobs and family :) I think I've learned a little from the Duggars and Jon & Kate...Plan, Plan, Plan. So I've written out my plan and can't wait to get started. The cake I'm doing for Saturday is a plain vanilla cake with white buttercream icing and fondant ribbons around the edge of each tier. I'm hoping the beaded fondant border will add a touch of elegance to the simple look which I love so much. Just those few touches of embellishment are just right. The fun part is the table decorations which I'm excited to do as well.

The wedding is white and deep purple, which I have purchased some decorative ribbon that is deep purple to trim the vases with. I am also including some heart accessories on the ribbon to hang in the front of the vase. I'm hoping to do the floating or submerged flower look in the vases so they can be placed around the cake along with some floating tea lights on the top in the other vases to give the soft lighting to enhance the look of the cake. I can't wait...Pictures coming soon of the trials!

Shinaviahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14459634335085939831noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8210563718010100235.post-1949663599906993052009-09-28T10:01:00.000-07:002009-09-28T10:17:01.741-07:00The First of ManySo on Saturday I did my first photo shoot with my awesome friend Sana. She's the best! I was so comfortable and she listened really well to my vision (even though it wasn't explained in photographer terms, lol) she still understood. I lost track of time because we were having so much fun but I'm sure we were there for at least 2 hours.

Preparation
So for the shoot I needed to decorate 2 faux cakes and some faux cupcakes which was kind of hard seeing as though the dummy cakes and cupcakes had no weight so they wouldn't stay still. Note to self: find out how food stylist do it :)

The "Big" Day
So after figuring out how to transport US, the food, and the equipment, we arrived at the location. While Sana was setting up, I prepared the food. After a few minutes of playing around with ideas we started to shoot. It was great learning about different shots and it helped that the kitchen owner had great taste so we had props we didn't even bring :) So the shoot went great and we got lots of great pictures. I'll post them when I get them!

Aftermath
It wasn't any....We just peeled the seran wrap off the dummies and we were done :) I couldn't have asked for anything else. We dropped everything in the tote and placed it in the trunk and we were off into the sunset...

All in all, everything was great, the photographer, the kitchen, the day it was all just perfect. I'm so happy and I can't wait to show the pictures.Shinaviahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14459634335085939831noreply@blogger.com0
